Contemporary artists address the many and varied effects of plastics on humans and nature.

And what about art?

A large number of artists are addressing the effects of plastic on our environment and bodies today. They are less concerned with examining the material aesthetically or in terms of its properties, such as stability, malleability, or light transmission. Instead, they want to make us aware of pressing environmental problems. For example, what does fossil oil have to do with our prosperity? How are street sweepers in Mexico City attempting to tackle refuse? And what might a posthuman ecosystem populated by “speculative” creatures that metabolize plastic look like?
