Apollo 11 and the Moon Girl

In the mid-1960s, the dream of conquering outer space generated a fascination for a cool techno aesthetic. Everyone was ready for take-off and plastic was the material of the moment. Allusions to the space age were as good as ubiquitous: in design, art, architecture and in fashion.  The “moon girl” conquered the catwalk. Silver and white became trend colors. When Apollo 11 landed on the moon with three astronauts on board in July 1969, the future seemed closer than ever.
