The 1960s were the true Decade of Plastic. The material had many uses, it was colorful, readily available, and popular in art and design alike. In the years when the German economy was recovering fast from World War II, plastic offered young people keen to distance themselves from the bourgeois, conservative generation of their parents with its rustic oak furnishings and doilies the raw material for a new lifestyle.
